I’d like to share a touching tribute to President Gordon B. Hinckley from Glenn Beck. He puts it so well. I’m so puzzled by those who get a kick out of mocking a man like President Hinckley who lived such a Christlike life.

Those who would mock someone like Gordon B. Hinckley, must have been the same that are referenced in the Book of Mormon partying in the “Great and Spacious Building” pointing at and mocking those who would hold to the iron rod and partake of the fruit.
One of my favorite lines in the scriptures is the last line of 1 Nephi 8:33 –
And after they did enter into that building they did point the finger of scorn at me and those that were partaking of the fruit also; but we heeded them not.
Heed not the mockers.
I have always taken an interest in reading the opinions and ideas of former members of the church. A lot of them have understandable concerns. The group that I will NEVER understand are those who feel a deep hate and resentment towards the church leaders. These are the people who laugh and make jokes about the circumstances or diseases that eventually claimed the lives of these great men. I cannot imagine how someone could become so calloused.
Thanks for your comment shadow spawn. Helps me focus on the good. President Hickley was a great person, and I think the vast majority of people who knew him or read his books recognize that. I’m proud of Glen for not being afraid to express his gratitude.
I would also like to express my gratitude for an individual such as Glen who is willing, as Shadow Spawn so eloquently put, to “Heed not the mockers.” President Hinckley was an incredible man, and the world has suffered a great loss in losing him.
I only recently (within the last couple of months) had found out about Glen Beck’s personal experience concerning the church. Truly an inspiring and beautiful account of the great change the Gospel and Christ’s Atonement can make in someone’s life. It’s not everyday you see someone in the spotlight who is so willing to stand up for what he believes, in spite of the obvious flack he may get from nay sayers. His personal comments concerning the late President Hinckley are incredibly heartfelt and resonate strongly with many members of the church and hopefully even with those outside of the church who could recognize Hinckley for the incredible man he was.
I disagree with Glenn on a lot of political issues, but I’m glad to tell people that we’re of the same faith.
“Fools mock, but they shall mourn” (Ether 12:26).
The thing I feel most inspired to say right now is Amen.
I really enjoy Glen Beck. I love the way he says things, without caring what other people think, and love that he says them to a national audience. This tribute to President Hinckley is one worth watching over and over again.
I attended a fireside he gave here in San Antonio last year. He’s got quite an amazing story, and it is touching to see how much the gospel and his testimony mean to him and that he’s not afraid to share it. Once on CNN he said that “you can’t get a Mormon to shut up about his/her faith” and I sensed how much it means to him that he himself can’t be constrained. It’s a quote that has reminded me to be more open and verbal about “my faith” when it might be easier to say nothing.
